Christine O'Donnell says Delaware Republican Party complaint was dismissed
DOVER -- Federal officials apparently have dismissed a Delaware Republican Party complaint that a California-based group illegally assisted Christine O'Donnell's victory over former U.S. Rep. Mike Castle in the September 2010 Republican U.S. Senate primary.
O'Donnell's attorney said Thursday that the Federal Election Commission sent her a letter saying the agency was dismissing the state Republican Party's complaint against O'Donnell's campaign and the Tea Party Express.
Tea Party Express spent $250,000 helping to defeat Castle. But state GOP leaders alleged the organization directly coordinated with O'Donnell's campaign and made excess donations above legal limits.
"The FEC was forced to drop the complaint because there was no evidence of any wrongdoing or violation," said Cleta Mitchell, a Washington, D.C., attorney representing O'Donnell. "It was politically motivated by the Castle forces and trumped up in the desperate closing days before the primary."
